Taking a Break with Legos

This weekend was super extra busy, but not in a fun way. My Boys somehow got fleas (either it being piggybacked on us or a friends who have visited), and it was time to wash and treat the house accordingly. I'm pretty sure we caught it early enough. (Un)Fortunately, my little Dean has a fairly sensitive flea allergy so ANY flea bit will cause him discomfort whereas the other two could care less.

(Dean unhappy at being at the vet)

However, one morning, I decided that I very much needed to take a break from all of the de-flea-ing of our house and break into a Lego pack that I had been given. It was Wonder Woman and given that the new movie is coming out very soon, how could I resist?!?

Unfortunately, I didn't realize that because this a Dimensions set, all of the instructions for assembly were online as part of the Lego game, which I don't own. There were a lot of little pieces...mostly clear...for the invisible jet.

Fortunately for me, I've been playing with Legos a very log time, so I used the photo from the box to put together WW's invisible jet!
Sufficed to say, it was nice being to take a break and have a little bit of fun during an otherwise super busy weekend.

Star Wars and Lego

Have you seen the new ROGUE ONE - A Star Wars movie yet? If you haven't, GET THEE TO A MOVIE THEATRE, asap!!

I won't spoil it here, but we might on the podcast so get ready for it. But, I will say this....It's really GOOD. I laughed. I cried. I loved it. And I plan on seeing it several more times in the theatre.

In celebration of the new film, my Viking and I spent a couple hours of our holiday building Legos that we acquired on sale at Target. Needless to say, we had a blast doing it.

This particular build had several different bags, and the instructions have you go through each bag -- showing what it would look like after each stage.

First thing is first, we separated all of the Lego pieces according to size, color, and shape.

Because, it's so much easier to find everything when it's all laid out well. There were a lot of different Lego pieces that I hadn't seen before. It's no longer standard sized blocks.

I wonder if you can guess what we're building. He & I took turns on each page. He'd do two pages, then I did two pages -- it was a collaboration effort, just like most relationships. It took us about two hours to build it from start to finish.

Eventually, we got through all 5 bags of different pieces.

It was a lot of pieces.

But the final effort was so worth it.

A black X-wing you might say....well, it is Po Dameron's x-wing after all, complete with a BB-8 and rebel mechanic.

And it fires off proton torpedoes! How cool is that?

Because you never know when you're going to run into a giant cat....

We also picked up our own separate Lego projects to build. I thought this General Grievous looked way too cool not to build, so I picked this as my personal project.

He's comprised of a lot of different ball joint pieces.

The build, itself, wasn't overtly difficult, but it was a lot of fun. The resulting figure is extremely posable and pretty much looks like he stepped out of the Clone Wars animation.

I think we shall be building more legos in the future. It's just too much fun.

Legos

I love Legos. I never had them as a kid, but I discovered them in college. A former roommate was a Lego representative for our area, so he managed to get us a bunch of Lego sets. My nieces and nephews have a ton of Legos and I enjoy building those things with them.

This past weekend, my in-laws gave me a belated holiday gift -- A Doctor Who Lego set!!

What's not to love? I'm a total geek over Doctor Who, and Legos definitely falls into "making and crafting".

A friend was over, so we decided to break it out. Her OCD nature organized the pieces by color and size.

There's over 600 pieces! The first order of the day was to put together the actual figures, as they are the easiest things to create.

However, it was interesting to note that Clara, the 11th Doctor (Matt Smith), and the Weeping Angel had two different faces on a single head  -- one smiley face and one serious face --- or in the case of the Weeping Angel --- one SCARY face and one not-so-scarey-face.

Whereas the 12th Doctor (Peter Capaldi) only had the single serious face.  I think there's a definite resemblance there!

We had to keep the cats from playing with the Lego pieces. We finally hit on a compromise and set up a "distraction" fabric away from the Legos. Pharaoh was very put out that we wouldn't let him bat around the pieces.

It took an hour to complete the control room. Then another hour for just the TARDIS portion.

There were 129 pages of instructions! But I'm amazed at how well it came together. The Daleks look like Daleks.

Unfortunately at one point, we had to deconstruct a good chunk of the control room, because we realized that we had misused two pieces that we needed for something else -- there was a couple of pieces that looked exactly like each other except for a cut-out opening. Then there were the weird leftover / extra pieces; we were afraid that we had done something wrong, but everything seemed okay.

Overall, it was a blast building it. The TARDIS detached from the control room as a separate individual piece, so we could just play with the TARDIS if we wanted. I love the Daleks and Weeping Angel.

I think I need more Legos.
